In a first of it’s kind eating competition, eleven men and one brave woman were split up into teams of six. On one side of the table was the Nashville Fire Department and on the other, Nashville Police. The goal was to stomach as many sliders as they could in 15 minutes. “I didn’t eat anything this morning. I’m ready to go” says Brad Sloan of the NFD.
Neither team had much of a strategy, but they didn’t talk a lot of smack. While this was a friendly competition, the first responders say it was nice to work together for a good cause.
The Slider House is giving $1500 in honor of the winners and $500 in honor of the losers, to The 100 Club of Nashville, a non profit dedicated to providing financial assistance to families of first responders who have either been injured or lost their lives in the line of duty. “On July 4th so many of the first responders work and work overtime. I thought it would be a good thing to put together to say thanks” says Dave Wachtel.
With a team of cheerleaders behind them, our cities finest finished. Even though some were left with a cleaner plate than others! In the end, The Nashville Police department was named the first ever “Burgers for Blues” champions. But everyone, including the Nashville 100 club, walked away winners!
